For some, receiving love is really difficult. Opening our hearts means risking a letdown, possibly another broken heart. Discouraged after love fails, we view it cynically or just flat give up.
But, what if there was a love out there that never disappoints? One that would not discourage or give up on you? One that would continually pour into you and never abandon you?
What would that look like? Who has the capacity to give me that type of love?
There are only two beings that I know of who are able to love like this. One is a four legged creature found
in the picture above. The other is the Creator of the heavens and earth found in Scripture.
This love is real; it’s present; it’s for you. The One who created you authors it; freely gives it; and never backs away from it.
Let your eyes gaze upon the intensity of it: “God so loved the world .…” Do you notice the “so?” This little word breathed out by God intensifies “love.” God soooooooooooooooooo loved the world. You are a part of the world. He loves you with an immeasurable intensity.
What is the result of his love for you?
“… That he gave his only Son ….” God allowed his innocent son – the only one in history to earn his way into heaven by living a perfect life – to be gruesomely executed for crimes he did not commit and for a people who reviled and cursed him.
O, the depths of his love … for you. You are precious to him and of immeasurable worth.
What is the result of receiving and believing in this love?
You will be adopted into his family and offered the rights of his other children; he will always be by your side; he will provide for you; he will comfort you, guide and instruct you; he will place in your heart the power to conquer the sins that bind you; he will give you an infectious joy for life; and he will never let you die so that you may have eternal life
“… That whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)
O the depths of his love … for you.
Open your heart and let him in. It’s the safest love you will ever experience. Then give him his due by allowing him to love you … every bit of you, even the ugly and embarrassing parts. His love covers those, too.
